The Village House Blacksmith
As a native of New Hampshire, Jack has a forty-five year background of working with metal. He has been a Professor of Welding Technology at the Manchester Community College for the last thirty years and has taught the art of blacksmithing as a credit course for the last ten years. He has attended the John Campbell School in North Carolina to learn basic blacksmithing and advanced techniques. He is a member of New England Blacksmiths Association , the Artist-Blacksmith Association of North America, and is juried artist with the New Hampshire Council of the Arts.
For the last thirteen years his wife, Marilyn, and Jack have owned and operated The Village House at Sutton Mills Bed and Breakfast; the barn was converted into his blacksmith shop and he displays and demonstrates with the many old and unusual tools he has collected through the years. There is an antique forge as well as a smaller portable forge for on-site demonstrations. His architectural works include bed frames, tables, pot racks, quilt racks, gates/fences and ornamental pieces, as well as restoration work.
During the summer months Jack demonstrates his art at several area sites, including The American Independence Museum in Exeter, NH, and he welcomes visitors to his shop. Please call in advance for hours of operation.
Jack offers free price quotes as well as assistance in creating a one-of-a-kind piece to suit your needs that will last many lifetimes.
